Configure roles, channels and voice priority

Updated 2 min readView as Markdown

In short

The configuration page saves by itself. Set a starter role (who can run /start and /stop), the shot caller channel the bot listens to, and the primary and backup roles whose voices get broadcast. /start needs a shot caller channel, a speaker channel, a starter role and a caller role.

Starter role#

Whoever has the starter role can control the bot with /start and /stop. People with Manage Server can always control it too. /status and /ping are open to everyone — see the command reference.

Shot caller channel#

The voice channel the Callout bot listens to. Your callers talk here, and more than one caller in it is fine. If the channel is private, give the bots' role View Channel, Connect and Speak there, as described in speaker bots.

Voice priority filtering#

These are the roles that actually get broadcast. When someone with one of them talks in the shot caller channel, it goes out to your parties. You can pick two:

  • Primary — always relayed, and takes priority.
  • Backup — relayed while nobody with the primary role is talking.

Saving and Refresh#

Everything saves by itself — there is no save button. If you add a role or channel in Discord and it isn't listed, hit Refresh at the top of the page. A running relay picks changes up within a few seconds: it joins new party channels, leaves removed ones, and applies voice teams and caller roles straight away. Cross-server relays are the exception — /stop-cross-server and start them again.

What /start needs#

  • A shot caller channel.
  • At least one speaker channel that is switched on.
  • A starter role.
  • A shot caller role (primary or backup).
